Every summer do you eat less, have more energy, and a brighter mood? When the temperatures are warm I wake in the morning ready for a run with more vitality and motivation for everything I do. This energy stays until winter weather sets in with shorter days and the cold winds seem to affect my mood. I have cravings, cravings and more cravings for more food and sleep. What’s your craving?
All of us have our own biological rhythms. Some rhythms are short and can be measured in hours, days while others last days, months or years.
Each evening in general most people’s body temperature will peak; which is a daily rhythm. A Circadian rhythm is roughly the 24 hour cycle; our biochemical, physiological or behavioural process. They regulate our digestion, body temperature and our hormone levels. Circadian rhythms are endogenously (arising from within) generated, and can be changed by external cues, called Zeitgebers. These are cues that change our time-keeping system. The primary one is daylight. Other Zeitgebers include ambient temperature, social interactions, drug, food and alcohol consumption also Essential Oils!
The female menstrual cycle is a monthly rhythm. While Menopause significantly affects circadian rhythms, leading to sleep disturbances and other related symptoms due to lack of Melatonin. Understanding the link between hormonal changes and circadian rhythm disruptions may help you better manage symptoms and improve your overall well-being during the menopausal transition. Adhering to a regular sleep pattern helps.
Our everyday rituals and routines can assist our biological or circadian rhythms in a most positive way regarding our general feeling of wellbeing and cognitive functioning when you’re following a regular sleep, wake routine. Allowing your body eight hours of sleep each night; structuring a routine by going to sleep and waking up at the same time is often easier in Winter.
Do you have a daily ritual to go to sleep at night? Do you have a preferred way of sleeping?
Getting the temperature right for when you’re asleep is critical. Sleeping with a heater on can cause a dry and overheated environment that can lead to skin dehydration and skin dryness and could potentially disrupt sleep. Wearing more clothes may lead to discomfort and overheating. Opting for a beanie, warm socks and layers of blankets that can be removed easily or replaced is a good option. The best approach depends on the individual and the specific situation, but generally, creating a comfortable and slightly cool sleep environment with appropriate clothing is recommended.
Most people wind down after dinner, shutting down computers and mobile phones, have a shower, brush teeth, do some stretching, play music or read a book for a short time. Just the act of putting pyjamas on is part of the ritual of going to sleep.
Your skin care routine at night is a great way to rejoice in ritual! Your daily and nightly skin care routine no matter if it’s simple or complex is the way to maintaining your youthful complexion. It’s the simple act of looking after yourself. Removing the pollution of the day, sunscreen etcetera that settles on your face, using Beauty By Nature cleanser and then moisturising your skin is a ritual to be enjoyed and exploited!
Winter Skin Care.
Your skin care routine may be as simple as a gentle cleanser followed by moisturiser. This is perfectly good for everyday and evening use. However if your skin needs more, specific to age prevention or your skin is looking dull, dry or lined, layering your skin with a serum first and then moisturiser definitely has added benefits. As does the regular application of a nourishing mask or a Facial at Beauty By Nature.
Start your day with a toning lotion to gently cleanse your face, such as Lavender Myrrh Toner and then apply Pure Plant Moisturiser with pro vitamin CoQ10, for day long soft, velvety skin radiance.
At the end of the day, cleanse your face and apply Cell Regenerating Complex which is capable of skin hydration, barrier protection and wrinkle reduction. Potent and powerful Vitamin B3, B5. Omega 7 fatty acids and carotenoids improve the production of ceramides, (essential lipids). Cell Regenerating Complex works as a humectant which helps hydrate the cells of your skin, therefore it’s necessary after applying, to layer a moisturiser over the top that will lock in hydration for the perfect winter skin treatment.
Rose Native Night Cream with Niacinamide is for skin brightening and rejuvenation; containing beautiful plant oils and butters that keeps skin smooth and supple.
Layering your skin with healthy, natural serum and moisturiser helps keep much needed moisture in your skin cells helping to prevent what is known as ‘Trans epidermal water loss’. Layering with Beauty By Nature skin care will benefit your skin’s wellbeing in every way.
Essential Elixir contains a very special combination of essential oils that can be massaged directly onto freshly clean skin, or alternatively may be applied over serums and/or moisturiser. When applying, be sure to gently massage in upwards strokes, without dragging your skin, for a minute or two for a true skin fitness workout! The exceptional cold pressed and essential oils deeply nourish and soothe not only your skin but also help you to feel relaxed.
Weekly extra care
During the Winter months it’s time to anoint your skin with Honey Healing Mask to further help your skin to stay supple, soft and nourished.I use Honey Healing Mask at least once or twice a week in Winter. I use it as a mask and now as the years have passed, sometimes spread it thinly and use as a rich night cream if I feel my skin needs a really intensive treatment after a day out in the garden. I once received a phone call that I’ve since remembered as one of the best ever testimonials… I picked up the phone to a rather desperate voice. I thought ‘Oh no, what’s happened. It was a cry for help. This customer – no names mentioned but you know who you are ? SAID, ‘help, is that you Vanessa? I’m on the ski slopes and I’ve forgotten to bring my Essential Elixir and Honey Healing Mask’. We chatted awhile. She knew the combination of Elixir and Mask was going to save her now dry, snow ravaged skin. Of course I immediately sent her order down to Perisher Valley.
Honey – nectar of the Gods. Delicious and sweet! ?Archeologists have discovered clay pots containing honey in the pyramids of Egypt as honey was offered to Min the fertility God. According to texts the ancient Mayans regarded the bee and honey as sacred. Many other ancient cultures believed honey had medicinal uses such as an ointment for rashes and burns. With technology we can see why honey deserves such a reputation with its powerful healing and antimicrobial and ‘antibiotic’ qualities although it is not an antibiotic. Honey has antibacterial mechanisms as a result of chelation activity, the presence of hydrogen peroxide and healing compounds that have an affect to treat drug resistant strains of bacteria and micro organisms. Honey is also hygroscopic in other words it has the ability to absorb moisture from the air. Used on the skin, honey is hydrating, anti inflammatory, repairing and protective. There are several different grades of honey depending on the clarity and colour and of course what flowers the bees have been taking the nectar from to produce the honey.
Honey Healing Mask contains the highest grade of active Manuka Medi honey where the nectar is obtained from the Manuka Flowers. This results in potent healing benefits for skin. Together with papaya extract, plant butters to soften and repair the skin and Provitamin B5 d-panthenol that improves integrity and elasticity of skin; Honey Healing Mask is a powerhouse for your skin when it needs it most.
