Lifestyle tips for glowing skin!
I often get asked if certain foods really do cause pimples ….and wrinkles! And the answer is a resounding YES. It is important to look at the acid and alkaline balance of foods and how they effect our body – and skin.
Many scientific studies have concluded that our body’s blood should ideally be slightly alkaline and it has been found in recent studies that most of our population have more of an acidic system which will cause all types of illnesses, ranging from general aches & pains, stomach upsets to acne, dermatitis and more! This is mainly due to the increased amount of processed food we eat and the ‘acid’ water we drink. Processed foods are generally acidic foods and often fast foods containing oily meat and chicken can be acidic . Vegetables, fruit, seeds and nuts are alkaline. The water we drink (including tank water – depending on the type of tank the water is stored in) unfortunately has become quite acidic. This is due to pollution and chemical additives. In order to hydrate your body optimally, you need to drink water that is filtered, alkaline and mineral rich. Try having a squeeze of lemon juice in a glass of water as soon as you wake up in the morning. Alkaline water helps to neutralize acids and remove toxins from the body and as you hydrate your body properly, you’ll develop more of a thirst for water. Food cravings are often the body’s cry for water or more mineral rich foods. You are fortunate if you are able to access organic vegetables grown in mineral rich, fertile soils.
Another factor that will influence our skin’s appearance is having a daily skin care routine. It may be as simple as washing your face and body and moisturizing daily. The very face wash and moisturiser that we choose to use on our face and body will have an effect on our health and the vitality of our skin and outward appearance. Using skin care products that have been formulated from natural plant ingredients instead of petroleum and synthetic ingredients will directly influence the way our skin functions. Plant ingredients can include omega 3 rich plant oils such as evening primrose and rosehip as well as natural vitamins occurring in plant oils. Compare those to synthetic ‘plastic’ ingredients that are contained in many commercial cosmetic brands.
At Beauty By Nature we specialize in creating a whole range of skin care items that contain plant ingredients. We also test the ‘PH’ of every one of our products which will allow the skin to stay nourished and blemish free.
